Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if my child needs therapy?
Many times a parent may have a gut instinct that a child is not meeting milestones within age-expectation, or may notice a difference in a child’s speech and language development as compared to age-matched peers. Other times, delays or deficits may be noted by educators or caregivers outside the home.
Check out our Resources to find more information about speech and language milestones.
Should you have concerns, please take advantage of our free 30-minute phone consultation and a therapist can help guide you to determine if an assessment is necessary, or if the child is right on track!
How long can I expect my child to attend speech therapy?
This is a common question that unfortunately can be difficult to answer. Many factors come into play when determining how long a child may require or benefit from therapy including: age, area(s) of weakness, severity, motivation, attention, co-occurring diagnoses and caregiver support/involvement. All of these factors vary from child-to-child, and case-to-case. Once therapy is underway, the child’s therapist may be able to provide a better idea as to how long services are warranted.
How long and how frequently are sessions?
Virtual sessions are 30 to 45 minutes, while in-person sessions are 45 to 60 minutes in duration. Sessions are typically once to three-times weekly. Frequency and duration of sessions will be determined following the initial evaluation depending on the child’s needs.
Do I need to be present at my child’s speech therapy sessions?
No, while caregiver participation is encouraged, it is not necessary for a caregiver to be present at each session. The child’s therapist will follow up weekly to provide feedback and make recommendations for at-home practice and support.
Do you accept insurance?
Unfortunately, we do not accept insurance. We are an out-of-network provider. Though we cannot guarantee reimbursement, we are happy to provide monthly superbills to each family that you may submit to insurance if applicable. Superbills will be provided only after payment to SLL has been remitted.
What is your cancellation policy?
We require 12 hours advance notice for cancellations. Late cancellations or forgotten appointments will be billed at the full cost of the session. To take into consideration for a child being sick, or for family emergency, if the session is cancelled in less than 12 hours, for every three-month period, the speech therapist will not charge for one session cancelled.
